Marketing is something I’m less than excited about. There’s something that just doesn’t sit right with me about asking folks to buy my book.
Still, I knew that taking my debut chapbook, Daughter de Borikén, to the city that in large part shaped the woman typing these words would be a unique opportunity I had to take full advantage of!
So, when in late August my publisher, Carlos Colón Ruiz of Editorial Pulpo sent a note about the Festival del Libro event taking place in late October in El Barrio, my eyes remained fixated at his words.
Wait, what? There’s a book fest in my city? I gotta be there!!
Here’s the thing, of our group of a pinch over 30 authors, I’m the only one who (a) is a native NYC poet, (b) writes in Spanglish and (c) whose work reflects the diaspora-displaced experience with the metropolis that is La Gran Manzana as backdrop.
