Growing up in New York City as a kid, I didn't know about the term "people of color." I remember simply identifying as Puerto Rican.

It wasn't until these past few years where I'd begun to see the terms POC & BIPOC used, especially in writing circles.

One thing I'm certain of - keeping quiet on the subject of racism is not the solution. At least, for me it's not. Educating myself and being open to honest conversations with a diverse group of people are ways to reduce ignorance.
