Has This Happened to Your Medium Story?
Three years in and I’m still confused.
This past June marked my three years on the platform. Apparently, I’m still on the learning curve!
I still can’t figure out what happened with my story published on The Taoist Online in late July. Knowing I would get rid of my [former] travel blog, La Trekista, I wanted to recycle my posts.
This one about flying 5,000 miles to get a tattoo was certainly to be one readers would enjoy! Okay, I didn’t intentionally travel from New York City to Hawai’i just for some body art — the truth is I decided it spontaneously.
But all of that is beside the point.
Why didn’t my story get more attention? It’s about trauma healing, getting my first tattoo, a reuniting with my favorite nephew and travel to Oahu. It’s even got a few pictures.
Medium shows it at one clap! Zero comments, zero words highlighted. Nothing!!
I’ll admit, it’s not as important as my other articles on social justice issues like racism, colonization, the patriarchy or Palestine. Still, I expected at least a few comments on it.
Or could it be Medium’s algorithm is the culprit here? Yes, I know whether it’s the algorithm or something else, I should let go of any expectation.
