I grew up being told that term "Boricua" was only for use with folks born here on the archipelago.

For me, the difference between Puerto Rican & Boricua goes deeper.

Let me elaborate, I was born & raised in NYC. The short version is it took me 53 years to understand that Borikén is my home!

I returned here to fight for what my ancestors built. That means buying eggs from a local farmer, spending my money as much as possible at Boricua-owned businesses.

Boricuas are those of us folks working towards our sovereign status, by protesting govt corruption, by promoting our beautiful culture.

[Some] Puerto Ricans are those who feel we are "lesser than" the gringos, who believe we must downplay our culture.

Thank you for reading my work.

Warm vibes your way.
