I had heard it uttered in the past, and though it annoyed me, I mostly let it slide. Been questioning myself on why I let it go.

When my boyfriend said it, I was taken aback - offended even. And when we discussed it (briefly), I realized he didn't see it as a big deal. He often reminds me that I "see race in everything." He's right, I do - and I refuse to apologize for it.
