I wrote a poem called Spanglish Pride on this topic. For colonized peoples stripped of their culture, displaced from their lands, and subjugated to all manner of humiliation, language is one way to resist.

The problem for Borikén is that our full Indigenous language(s) was(were) not retained. I still need to research more on this aspect of our stories.
