It's important to highlight their efforts, of course. But, I respectfully disagree that they are any extra deserving of our appreciation because it goes back to the same thing - why are they singled out as doing something 'special'?

They are just like the rest of us - concerned citizens. Of course, I understand that context matters - and so because Jews (and let's be clear, also other groups: Roma, gay, Black folks) were targeted during the Holocaust, the world wants to put them on a 'pedestal' for speaking out.

To be clear: I'm glad they are speaking up.
