Jajom for this piece. I found out about Noel Quiñones several years back - I've been hooked ever since.

Millions of us are what I termed diáspora-displaced. So many of us lose language along the way. I too am Nuyorican and didn't grow up speaking inglés at home because, according to my mother, my "father didn't want us to speak it."

This is a beautiful + necessary piece.

Sending warmth from the jewel of Loíza on my ancestral motherland of Borikén.

p.s. Jajom is our Indigenous Taino word for gratitude.

p.p.s. I left the U.S. in Nov 2021 to move to the land of my ancestors.
