Newsflash: No One is Impressed by Curse Words in Medium Articles

Or are folks simply hoping for clicks?

Two days ago an article in my newsfeed caught my eye (well, both of them actually). Not because the title was impossibly original. Nor was it due to a captivating image.

It was the dang profanity that got me (yes, I use the word dang in *real life*). The author used the f-word, followed by the c-word.

To be clear: I’ve been known to cuss a bit now and then. And I certainly have flipped the bird more than a few times in my life (mostly to aggressive drivers who think they own the road). I am no goodie-two-shoes…I smoke weed, and yes, I drink alcohol (sweet German Reisling is my go-to adult beverage). No, I don’t believe in religion, or God, or any of that stuff.

But, seriously, how difficult is it to come up with a catchy article title (or an entire story) without dropping the f-bomb? Then to follow it up with the c-word — that’s just straight up overkill.

Insecurity or Lack of Imagination?

Are there times when rated PG words just don’t suffice? Possibly. Might the author have been intentional to convey their anger/frustration (or another sentiment)? I can’t rule that out either, but it just seemed the usage was gratuitous.
