Spreading Smiles Is Really Simple
Just put others first
Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give.
~ Unknown
Less than 1/2 an hour ago, friends dropped me off at my house. The three of us had signed up to volunteer with a local non-profit, Techos Pa Mi Gente (Roofs For My People). Our task: prepare lunch for folks repairing a damaged home.
Something else we did: put positive vibes out to the Universe.
And smiles.
I could write for days about what I experienced during those few hours today — the warmest welcome from the managers of Techos, appreciation for giving our time, a love of community, and our shared humanity.
But, I’ll save that very long article for another day.
Right now, I just want to bask in the beauty of what I felt, of what I still feel. Being surrounded by like-minded people eager to make a difference in the lives of others is something sincerely humbling.
To know there are people here in Borikén (aka Puerto Rico) willing to prioritize the needs of their communities makes my heart smile. And to see people have come from other countries (England, even!) to help us rebuild is a gift.
All I can say is un millón de gracias!
