Survey: What Colors Inspire Your Writing?

Thinking metaphorically

Writing is an art form. I’m confident that no one will disagree with such an obvious statement. But where I’m finding myself challenged is in broadening the palette, the lens through which to color my canvas.

Much like the Mexican icon, Frida Kahlo, I want my work to evoke the deepest feelings — whether of sorrow and suffering or joy and inspiration (or anything in between). My choice of words should:

  • use imagery to paint a vibrantly colorful picture
  • create a desire to keep reading
  • be thought-provoking (perhaps controversial)
  • engage the reader

Ideally, my articles succeed at all (or at least 3) of the above. Otherwise, why else would readers choose my stories from among the plethora of Medium options?

Side note: before anyone gets snooty, I’ll clarify. By no means am I comparing myself to La Gran Frida. I was simply thinking of how powerful her paintings are, and the raw emotions they express/evoke.
