There are few things in life as sweet & as precious as the laughter of children. ~ Author, Lola’s Lines

Preparing this article — just as I was thinking of what quote to use — an image from January 2021 came to my mind.

On the final leg of my three-week transformational trip to Tanzania, I spent 4 nights in Matemwe, a village in the northeast region of the picturesque island of Unguja. I remember one afternoon as I went to purchase a bottle of water, a group of schoolgirls (about 6 or 7) saw me.

Smiling, I waved at them saying “Hamjambo,” hello [plural] in Swahili.

Their faces — filled with curiosity and the wonder of all that life holds ahead for them — smiled back at me as they too waved. A few of them responding —

Hatujambo (We are fine)

This short interaction is one of the many beautiful memories I have of my time in the East African nation known for having some of the kindest, happiest people on the planet.
